Meet John Flannery

John Flannery has always been engaged and involved with his local community. An entrepreneur and philanthropist with proven success in the private sector, John owned and operated four businesses and provided employment for hundreds of Franklin County residents.

Before starting his own businesses, John worked at Hub Labels in Hagerstown for 18 years, starting out as a press operator and rising through the ranks to later become Vice President of Manufacturing. He also studied business and leadership at Hagerstown Community College.

John and his wife, Allison (Ame) launched Flannery’s Tavern in Mercersburg in 2005 and the John Allison Public House in Greencastle in 2010. They also purchased and renovated the Irwin House in Mercersburg, providing much needed facelift to Mercersburg’s historic town square.

As an entrepreneur, Flannery has always professed, “you cannot expect the community to support you, if you are not willing to support the community.” John has consistently applied this motto within his businesses and personal life.

Active in the Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce, John served as a TACC board member for nine years, and as chairperson for two years. He is a member of the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is the founder and chairperson of one of their major annual fundraising events.

You cannot expect the community to support you, if you are not willing to support the community.

In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors for the Tuscarora Education Foundation and on several community-minded committees. John greatly valued the FixJB Sports and GA-MAAX capital campaigns and has organized many events in support their cause.

At the Flannery Group restaurants, John introduced Sunday Fundraisers, donating a percentage of every Sunday’s total sales as a way to give back to community organizations.

John was honored as “Business Person of the Year” by the Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce in 2013.

Flannery, 49, lives in Montgomery Township with Ame, his wife of 25 years and their furry friend, Snoopy. Their son, Jonathan, is also a Franklin County resident.

“I am fiscally conservative and want to ensure that we are operating our county government and providing for public safety and human services as efficiently and effectively as possible. As a business owner, I have to ensure our businesses are operating efficiently and that we are not spending what we do not have; too many times our elected officials forget that the taxpayers are not a money tree. I have assisted many Republican candidates over the years, at all levels of government, and feel it is time to step up and serve Franklin County. The difference in my candidacy is that I have a career; I do not need a new one. I am not a career politician, and I simply want to do my part for Franklin County citizens; no elected office should be a career. Combined, all three of our current commissioners have been in office for 48 years. If elected, “I pledge to serve no more than two terms.”
